The Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion will develop and implement an enterprise DE&I strategy to expand employee and leadership knowledge and engagement, drive sustainable results and assist Patterson in being an employer and supplier of choice. This role will partner directly with key stakeholders, including senior leadership, providing support and expert guidance on creating and executing meaningful plans to build DE&I capabilities in their areas of responsibility.

Develop and execute an enterprise-wide Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DE&I) strategy aligned with Patterson’s values that drives meaningful, measurable impact.
Collaborate with functional stakeholders, such as supply chain, legal, HR, etc., to set DE&I short and long-term objectives in support of the DE&I strategy. Provide guidance and support to business unit and functional leaders as they develop and implement DE&I programs and initiatives.
Establish metrics and a DE&I scorecard for Patterson to measure effectiveness of programs and initiatives and provide regular updates to senior leadership and functional stakeholders. Partner with senior leadership to develop, drive, and track Balanced Scorecard objectives.
Engage with Patterson Talent Acquisition to align functional and enterprise DE&I strategies to increase representation, retention and engagement of diverse talent across Patterson.
Partner with Learning and Organizational Effectiveness team to elevate employee and manager knowledge on DE&I topics, drive behavioral change in support of DE&I, and measure success of programs. Evaluate and ensure equity in formal learning and development opportunities across the organization.
Partner with Patterson Affinity Group leads and provide guidance and leadership support. Guide Patterson business unit and functional leaders on how to engage and leverage affinity groups to drive business decisions and increase employee engagement.
Work with the Communications team to develop and deploy D&I communication plans across multiple channels. Create communications/messaging/collateral.
Partner with Patterson UNITES (DE&I council) to align appropriate resources organization-wide in order to engage employees at all levels in DE&I initiatives that are meaningful to local teams and their communities.
Serve as an external ambassador for Patterson by leading initiatives such as community outreach, partnering with other DE&I leaders to benchmark best practices, and providing insights at speaking engagements throughout communities in which we serve.
Manage a departmental budget.
Manages direct reports including the hiring, development, performance management, goal setting, and other managerial duties.
Ensures direct reports are aware of and follow established business policies, practices, and Company’s Code of Conduct to create a supportive and productive working environment.
Job Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in business, human resources, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
At least 10 years of Human Resources or business experience, with at least 5 years of leadership experience focused on DE&I, program management, organizational change, and/or talent management.
Experience building and leading programs and developing strategies that impact a broad audience and require cross-functional partnership preferred.
Proven ability to build relationships and influence effectively at all levels of an organization, specifically in a decentralized structure.
Experience establishing metrics and using data and analytics to develop insights, drive results and measure impact.
Excellent communication skills, ability to effectively communicate across multiple audiences at all levels of the organization, including the C-Suite.
Understanding of US state, federal or international (Canada, UK) laws that impact D&I practices.
This role is hybrid in the Twin Cities area. If not local, 25% travel expected.
