About the Position
The Maricopa County Department of Transportation has an exciting opportunity for an engineer who values relationship-building in a diverse work environment. The Assets & Special Projects Branch has an opening for an Engineer Associate who, under general supervision, performs a variety of complex technical engineering duties requiring consideration and analysis of multiple variables and the use of independent judgment in decision-making. In this position, you will update Maricopa County transportation assets using Cartegraph OMS, go on field visits to verify assets as well as creating work tasks for assets that need to be repaired, assist with employee training on how to use and navigate Cartegraph, and lead Spring and Fall asset condition assessment procedures, while also having the opportunity to work in the field, office, and remotely.

We Require
Bachelor’s Degree in a work-related engineering discipline such as, but not limited to, civil, construction management, structural, or mechanical engineering OR
Four years of experience in civil, structural, mechanical engineering, or inspection or asset/construction project management in a closely related field, such as roadway and public works projects
Combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis
Valid Arizona driver’s license upon hire

Experience in Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD)
Experience with Land Survey or Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software programs
Experience with asset management software applications and pavement management software applications
Job Contributions
Conduct field reviews of various construction and maintenance projects to verify, correct, and supervise the update of asset inventory
Prepare detailed asset inventories and assessments based upon review of as-built construction drawings, field inspections, and general construction/maintenance knowledge
Provide technical review of construction and maintenance management plans to ensure timely and accurate inclusion, replacement, and retirement of department assets
Assist end users in Cartegraph, Road Information Tool, ArcGIS Survey 123, notify MCDOT (SeeClickFix), and other asset management systems
Develop and deliver asset management training curriculum
Support the Asset Program Supervisor in managing the Transportation Asset Management Plan (TAMP)
Coordinate with department divisions to update the TAMP annually, including inventory, condition, risk, and performance
Determine if new asset categories or attributes are required and coordinates system updates as needed
Make recommendations for performance-based budgeting and strategic asset management scenarios
Oversee the department asset management system and coordinates integration into critical GIS and ITC applications
Evaluate tests and recommend acquisition, implementation, and adaptation of new technology
Working Conditions
Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
Work will occur in office and field environment
May be exposed to loud noise, noxious odors, unsanitary conditions, chemicals, electricity, moving mechanical parts, varying weather conditions, and other related conditions and situations
Position is subject to atmospheric conditions: Fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation
Hard hat, reflective vest, safety boots required
