Position description
The Mayo Clinic Comprehensive Cancer Center Patient Navigator is a liaison between our patients and their families from Hispanic/Latino communities and Mayo Clinic. In addition to working directly with patients, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary health care team, the Patient Navigator maintains a web presence for ease of contact and assists the patient and their family members by identifying needs and facilitating connections which can decrease barriers to treatment and improve their overall experience. The Patient Navigator is proactive in contacting and assisting patients as well as the patient’s care team. The Patient Navigator remains current with resource and referral information and helps identify gaps in resources offered, working within their respective Hispanic/Latino community, as appropriate. Patient Navigators are required to adhere to the ethical, compliance, and regulatory standards set forth for the center/department/division/program and institution.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and three years of experience in communication, customer service, or patient care OR Associates degree or other college certificate or diploma required with six years of experience in communication, customer service, or patient care required.
• Prior experience working with public health programs or in health systems which serve Hispanic/Latino or communities of color and demonstrated knowledge of respective cultures and religious needs is required.
• Fluency in Spanish and English
• Must include Resume and Cover Letter for further consideration. In cover letter, share your interest in the role and relevant experience in working with Hispanic/Latino patient populations.
• Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. This position is not eligible for F-1 OPT STEM extension.

Additional qualifications

• Experience working with cancer patients of all ages and families preferred.
• Awareness of and comfortability with connecting cancer patients and caregivers to local, regional and national resources.
• Demonstrated listening and engaging skills is required.
• Demonstrated organizational, communication and teamwork skills.
• Must be flexible and have the ability to respond to changing priorities and varying workloads.
• Experience in a medical field, managed care or similar environment and knowledge of the Mayo system is strongly preferred.
• Requires effective oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work in a complex environment with multi-dimensional points of view.
• The incumbent must be able to work effectively in a consensus-style operation that expects and promotes teamwork.
• Must be comfortable with ambiguity, exhibit good decision making and judgment capabilities, attention to detail, and follow-through.
• Must possess the ability to inspire trust and confidence, and communicate effectively with internal and external audiences.
• Incumbent must be self-motivated, self-directed and highly organized who will promote a productive, collegial workplace and be a professional ambassador for Mayo Clinic.
• Ability to prioritize work and handle a variety of tasks simultaneously is necessary in this position.
• Belief in the mission and strong ethical conduct is essential.
• Demonstrated proficiency in information technology, MS Office products, and clinical applications.
• An understanding of a complex healthcare system and the philanthropic process is desirable.
• Requires the ability to work collaboratively and professionally to build rapport with others at all levels of responsibility.
• Must possess effective interpersonal skills and the ability to interact on a professional level with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
