The Sharon Walker School of Education at Morningside University invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Education to provide
instruction and support for initial licensure and endorsement programs in the unit.
The Sharon Walker School of Education focuses
exclusively on preparing future educators and providing advanced study for current educators, serving more than 1,000 students each year
across undergraduate, adult, and graduate programs both on campus and online. The School offers traditional initial licensure programs for
undergraduate students in elementary and secondary education, as well as 12 MAT programs, including 3 initial licensure degree programs, and
15 advanced practice endorsements and educational strands. Morningside University is one of two institutions in the state of Iowa approved
to offer initial licensure through the Iowa Teacher Intern program. Enrollments are thriving in these accelerated adult and alternative
route programs.
This is a 9-month, full-time, tenure track position, located on campus, with a start date of August 14, 2023.
Responsibilities:
· Teach 20 credits over the academic year (Fall-Spring) in undergraduate and/or adult
and graduate initial licensure or endorsements programs, plus a May-term course once every three years.
· Prepare and deliver
courses, which may include assignments in these areas: foundations of education, elementary methods, reading methods, and/or special
education.
· Complete student assessments and professional dispositions as required for teacher candidate progression.
· Participate in the work of the school of education as appropriate, including contributing to internal committees and curriculum
redesign as qualified and needed.
· Advise and consult with undergraduate students as assigned by department head.
· Engage in service to the university and participate in professional development.
Qualifications:
· A master’s degree in curriculum and instruction, education, or closely
related field; Ph.D. or Ed.D., preferred.
· Licensure as an elementary or middle school teacher and K-12 teaching experience
are required.
· Teaching experience and licensure in literacy and/or special education, preferred.
·
Demonstrated experience and/or commitment to creating inclusive learning environments and curricula for a diverse student body, including
awareness of current practices that support underrepresented populations, preferred.
· Prior higher education teaching
experience, preferred.
