Salary range is $55,000 to $65,000 with a 7.5% annual bonus based on company performance, plus 100% paid base plan of medical, dental, life insurance and HRA, HSA, and 401K benefits after successful completion of 90 day probationary period.
Position Summary
As a Safety Engineer reporting to the Safety Director, your primary purpose is to prevent workplace accidents and promote health and safety awareness and education to fellow employees, subcontractors, and clients. You are responsible for making sure that employees follow health and safety laws and creating policies for a safer work environment. In this role, you must take measures to identify potential workplace hazards and improve existing conditions. From project inception to final completion providing compliance assurance with clients, leadership and regulatory requirements regarding overall project safety measure are in place is essential to this position. You must also be able to assess potential hazards, act safely and quickly in the event of an incident. This role requires outstanding interpersonal skills, client service attitude, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of individuals.
Responsibilities and Accountability
• Review, track and administer Job Safety Analyses.
• Administration of client specific Permit to Work processes and logs.
• Completion of construction site safety and health audits.
• Research and interpretation of applicable safety related standards, guidelines, and client procedures.
• Work with contractors and project teams to maintain a high level of site safety performance.
• Collection, management, and reporting of leading and lagging safety metrics.
• Maintenance of project specific JSA and Permit to Work logs.
• Attend weekly project review meetings.
• Review safety programs developed by the Contractor and, if necessary, provide recommendations for improvement.
• Document review and coordination for Project Management team.
• Field supervision and site support as required.
• Ability to multi-task and be comfortable with involvement in multiple projects concurrently.
• Capability to deliver clear, concise verbal or written communications to a varied audience.
• Support Safety Director on projects related to areas of responsibility.
• Attend Safety Committee meetings and others as required.
• Investigate accidents and incidents to find cause and take prevention measures for further incidents.
• Handle worker’s compensation claims in the event of a workplace accident.
• Suggest solutions, improvements, and prevention steps for safety issues.
• Ability to prioritize tasks especially when handling an accident or incident.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA)
• Success working with subcontractors/vendors supporting mutual safety objectives.
• Proven track record of success executing high hazard prevention programs; specifically: LO/TO, electrical safety, confined space entry and fall protection.
• A proven track record managing regulatory compliance.
• Knowledge of OSHA, DOSH, EPA, NIOSH, ANSI, and NFPA requirements and documentation.
• Valid drivers’ license and use of personal vehicle required.
• Ability to pass a background check and pre-hire drug screen.
• Ability to work in a campus setting and corporate style environment.
• Pharmaceutical or manufacturing experience (or similar) preferred.
• Must have reliable transportation.
• When driving on company business, a clean driving record, valid driver’s license, properly maintained employee-owned vehicle with the state minimum mandated levels of auto liability insurance are required as a condition of employment.
• Must be a team player.
• Proficient skills with Microsoft Office (Word and Excel), Jonas Premier and Microsoft Project. *Training will be made available for Computer software.
Minimum Requirements
• Minimum 2-3 years of professional safety experience required, preferably in a construction, heavy industrial or pharmaceutical industry.
• Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent field is preferred.
• 30 Hour Construction Safety Outreach Training or willingness to attend training.
• Knowledge of construction and/ or past direct construction experience preferred.
• Eligibility to work in the United States.
• Have a valid driver’s license and properly maintained vehicle with the state minimum mandated levels of auto liability insurance.
