General Summary:
The Department of Teacher Education at Eastern Michigan University seeks a highly qualified educator for a
full-time 8-month, tenure track position in teacher education beginning in Fall 2023.
The candidate should have a scholarly agenda
and teaching experience related to literacy education and field-based educator preparation. The Department of Teacher Education is proud of

engaging in youth development and learning, and contributing to transformational teaching, learning, and leading in support of healthy
communities. We seek candidates who demonstrate the capacity to engage ethically in communities of practice with ethnically, racially,
linguistically, and otherwise diverse populations and historically marginalized youth, families, and communities and who seek to enact such
a commitment in collaboration with others in the department, college, campus, and broader community.
Principal Duties and
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include teaching, advising, and mentoring students at the undergraduate and master’s levels. The
candidate will be expected to maintain a focus in teaching, scholarship, and service as well as collaborate with colleagues throughout the
university and community. The candidate will be expected to teach and serve students on and off campus, in face-to-face, and in online
learning environments. Candidates should have experience with school and community-engaged teaching and learning approaches,
university-school partnerships, and a commitment to developing and fostering relationships with school communities to support field-based
teacher education.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
o Doctoral degree in literacy education or related field and
completed by date of appointment from an accredited institution.
o An emergent/active community-engaged scholarly agenda and
accomplishments related to the appointment.
o Prior literacy teaching experience in a P-12 school in the U.S. o Interest in teaching
at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Desired Qualifications:
o Current scholarly and practice-based expertise in
elementary education (i.e. K-6 grades) and/or secondary education in the field of literacy, particularly in areas paramount to student
success, the effectiveness of educators, and to the future of literacy studies: digital literacy, critical literacy, culturally competent
literacy, and anti-racist literacy pedagogy
o A flexible, collaborative nature with literacy scholarship focused on the impact of
literacies and literacy studies on teacher preparation, teacher retention, and teacher development o Pedagogical practice in teaching
undergraduates and graduate students for in-person and virtual delivery formats
o Experience and expressed interest in recruiting and
mentoring students
o Prior experience or interest in learning how to use data for program review and accreditation purposes
o
The ideal candidate demonstrates experience and versatility in inclusive pedagogy.
We are especially interested in qualified
candidates who can contribute to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice through their teaching, research, and service. The successful
candidate will serve an eight-month, tenure track appointment with summer employment contingent on student demand and funding. A competitive
salary will be based on qualifications and prior experience with a tenure track appointment at the assistant professor rank. Starting date
should be no later than August 31, 2023.
