Position description
The teaching faculty series at UC San Diego carries equivalent rights and responsibilities to
the more traditional UC San Diego research-focused faculty series. Faculty in this series are expected to place a stronger emphasis on
teaching and scholarly activity related to education than on traditional disciplinary research activities (https://www.ucop.edu/academic-personnel-programs/_files/apm/apm-285.pdf). The normal teaching load for Lecturer with
Security of Employment (LSOE) faculty is six courses per year. As the emphasis of this position is on teaching and leadership of the TEP
program, it will have a reduced teaching load of up to four undergraduate or graduate courses over three quarters each year.
The
Director is expected to provide executive leadership and administrative oversight for curriculum and instruction across all teacher
education programs; to coordinate and write reports, program proposals, and assessments of the teacher education programs and courses as
part of the CTC accreditation process; manage the Teacher Performance Assessment (TPA) process; to manage the budget; to contribute to and
participate in district partnerships and other community outreach; to represent TEP on college, university, community, state, and national
committees and councils; to participate in fundraising and professional development initiatives; to engage with students, faculty, staff,
and stakeholders in formal and informal settings; and collaborate with the UC San Diego CalTeach Program. The Director is expected to
monitor student progress and concerns, in collaboration with faculty and Student Affairs staff. Coordination for student teaching includes
organizing initial student/Intern teacher placements for all Master’s/Credential students and providing administrative oversight.
The
ideal candidate for this position has strong executive leadership skills, a collaborative nature, is a problem-solver and strong advocate
for public schools, and a highly-competent instructor. This position involves teaching course curricula that consists of individuation,
collaboration, and opportunities to learn the complexities of education across the spectrum of PreK-12 school settings. Other
responsibilities for this position will include participating in department and university service commitments. A successful applicant must
have a thorough understanding of state credentialing licensure and accreditation as set forth by the Commission on Teacher
Credentialing.
