Finance Officer
• Location: Fareham, Hampshire.• Job Type: 5-6 month contract.• Pay Rate: £15.96, PAYE.
We are seeking a Finance Officer to join our finance team, providing essential financial information and support to managers and staff. This role involves supervising and developing a team of Finance Assistants and Clerks, ensuring a high-quality financial service in terms of timeliness, accuracy, and compliance with professional standards.
Day to Day of the role:• Deliver financial services, support accounting processes, and manage finance tasks and transactions accurately and promptly.• Manage data within finance systems and records, processing requests according to current procedures and timetables.• Supervise, manage, and develop the finance team, identifying training needs and carrying out first-line manager responsibilities.• Monitor financial performance against budgets and policies, producing and reconciling management information, and presenting financial reports to stakeholders.• Authorise financial transactions, including p-card transactions, and manage petty cash, including foreign currency.• Process changes to cost centres, action journals, accruals, and prepayments as necessary.• Develop guidance and financial procedures, ensuring compliance with legislation.• Assist with month-end and year-end financial procedures and manage sales ledger and purchase ledger processes.• Maintain responsibility for information management in compliance with policies and legislation.• Travel to various locations within the UK as required and hold a current full driver’s licence.
Required Skills & Qualifications:• Educated to QCF Level 3 with a financial qualification at QCF level 2, i.e., AAT, or equivalent work experience.• Substantial experience in a busy finance office environment, including the use of a computerised accounting system.• Experience in supervising staff, handling queries, and working to tight deadlines under pressure.• Proficiency in IT systems, including word processing and spreadsheets, with accurate and fast data entry skills.• Understanding of profit and loss accounts.• Desirable: Further QCF Level 3 finance qualifications, e.g., AAT, experience in compiling management information using IT, and experience in giving presentations.
