Emerald is seeking a strong new business development focused Sales Director. This role will generate and lead new sales and sales strategy efforts supporting MJBiz events and media, including the award-winning tradeshow, MJBizCon, the leading conference supporting the global cannabis industry. From professional grow and processing to financial services, MJBiz connects industry leaders in distinct segmented areas including Cultivation Products & Services, Processing, Packaging & Lab Services, Retail & Dispensary, and Business Services.
As Sales Director, you’ll be responsible for delivering revenue for the MJBiz Media (print and digital) as well as conferences & tradeshows. You’ll balance leading and mentoring your sales team with an individual sales goal focused on new business growth which will require you to consistently cultivate warm leads, prospect, and network for new leads as well as own and close strategic targets while supporting your team members on complex opportunities. You are comfortable with sales discipline, forecasting, CRM, proposal writing, strong pipeline, and opportunity management, and have the technical skills to drive reporting, compliance, and visibility.
The best candidate for this role will be a proactive, results-driven leader who is capable of building and maintaining a results-producing sales funnel with limited oversight. You’ll bring the ability to quickly drive the success of an established brand and take a data-driven approach to making decisions and setting a clear strategy and operating plan to enable our sales team to hit ambitious revenue goals.
This position can be performed from any of our US-based offices or remotely from anywhere within the US.
Responsibilities:
Player/Coach, self-directed to achieve personal goals while acting as team lead to VP of Sales in developing and motivating a team of Sales Consultants and Business Development Managers to deliver revenue targets
Build account strategy in collaboration with VP of Sales and Brand Leader
Execute account strategy for maximum revenue potential across all channels and products
Develop outreach strategy to convert brands/companies in the cannabis industry, into sales opportunities
Work with Marketing, Sales Coordinator and Senior Leadership to ensure follow up of leads in assigned channels
Achieve monthly, quarterly and annual pipeline and revenue targets
Multimedia Sales Experience with consistent track record of exceeding YOY growth
Experience implementing and managing a clear, efficient, technology-enabled sales process and structure that drives growth
Qualifications:
Proven ability to rally a team and leverage data and methodical execution to meet ambitious personal and team goals
Successful track record of collecting and managing forecasts with accuracy and predictability throughout the entire sales funnel
Ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams including marketing, finance, and other leaders across the organization
Comfort working in a dynamic, evolving environment, with a proven ability to effectively pivot to incorporate new information and/or develop new strategies to ensure goals are met
Ability to effectively communicate with, influence, and manage Executive level customers
Strong understanding of Sales Development best-practices (cadence management, cold-calling, objection handling, etc.) and pipeline-building process. Inside sales expertise with a focus on creative cold calling tactics a plus.
Sales Leadership experience with a proven ability to create and execute strategies that drive revenue and consistently hit success metrics for a fast-growing, evolving event and industry
Experience managing and developing a team of sales development representatives or account executives to meet/exceed revenue and retention targets
Proficient in Salesforce, A2Z, Microsoft Office, and other sales acceleration technologies
Ability to travel up to 20% of the time

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Target Compensation: $80,000-$100,000 (Sales Incentive Eligible)
Please note that this range reflects a reasonable estimate of the target compensation for this position. This range may ultimately vary based on a candidate’s qualifications and may be higher where required by applicable law.
